NEWSLETTER 14
February 2010
On the 3rd February we left for Bali, this time only staying three and a half weeks. Our base once again was our familiar hotel in Sanur and only a small group of friends were with us for this trip.
Our trusted friends in Bali, Sudana Tanto, Gusdek and Senny once again assisted us by purchasing the food aid for the villages from our donations and this was done through the Co-ops in the villages which in return benefit the village itself.
The Staff from the John Fawcett Foundation took us to visit Tom and Lyn’s sponsor twins at Gianyar where we gave them each a gift and we also gave the local children a treat of lollies and biscuits. We then continued to Payangan to visit Valerie’s sponsor child. This was Val’s first time to meet with her sponsor child and her mother. A lot of joy for us all to be with these children that we sponsor.
We visited once again the village of Ulakan where we gave out 200 food parcels, clothes and caps to the people in the vil
lage. We gave each of the 150 school children a school pack which included pens & pencils donated by Thornlie Rotary Club.
We once again enjoyed a sing-a-long with the children. These children never fail to enjoy our visits and our contributions.
We visited a smaller village where we personally handed out another ten food parcels to individual families. Also on this visit, we photographed two ladies with large goitres and we are going to follow up with the John Fawcett Foundation for them both to be seen by their doctor. We will keep you all informed of their progress.
TAMPAKSARING
Our next visit was to Senang Hati Foundation. Once again our visit was a joyous occasion. We took food and school supplies, walking frames, sheets, towels and blankets. While we were there we watched them making jewellery. We brought some of their jewellery back to sell which will hopefully assist them financially.
It is always sad to leave these people and we look forward to our return trip.
SERAYA
We left for Seraya Village school with a group of eight people from Australia. Once again the children all came out to greet us. This trip we gave 140 children a 5kg bag of rice each [donated by Thornlie Rotary Club] and a school pack each. The school is looking good. Valerie and Lyn are going to sponsor two of the very poor children in this school as they move on to high school this July. While we were there we noticed a young boy suffering from severe eczma – we all put in money to cover his medicals and medicines. Just before we left we learned that his condition is much improved with only a small evidence of eczma. We are hoping to raise some money to buy each child a pair of shoes for when we return in August.
From the school in Seraya we called into the village where we had previously connected the water tap. Since August there have been twelve individual water taps connected to twelve small village compounds and this is giving water to a couple of hundred people. Before we left we all enjoyed a sing-song with the children.
TUMBU
We met Gede and his mother again and gave him a bag of clothes and toys. He is now doing well at school and looks very well
and happy and smiling, which you can see from the photo with his mother and what a joy to us all these two people are.
(Gede with some of our group from that day.)
Left the village for Candi Dasa where we all enjoyed a late lunch.

LOVINIA
Our next trip was for Ade’s birthday party at an orphanage in Denpasar. Our friend Gustek and Senny’s daughter Ade celebrated her 16th birthday and this was her choice of how she wished to spend it. We took along party food packs, drinks, gifts and Pedule Bali school packs for 80 children and a big birthday cake. It was an enjoyable time and a wonderful way for a 16 year old to celebrate her birthday.

GIANYAR ORPHANAGE
This trip we were unable to visit this orphanage, but they are not forgotten as we are still looking for more ways to help them.
UBUD
Five of us visited Yayasan Bumi Sehat [birthing centre] . We left with them two large stripy bags of baby blankets, clothes etc. for the new born babies. We met three new mums and their babies and gave them each a baby pack. We did not meet up with Robyn this trip as she was doing humanitarian work in Haiti.
Made was our driver on this occasion – you will remember him as the man who had the cataract operation. He is doing so well and is so grateful for the opportunity we gave him.
SEWING MACHINE

The other sewing machine will go up to Bali in our next trip in August.
PROJECTS
We had discussions with putting in septic tanks in the village of Seraya. We will over the next few months be having further discussions and start with one as a trial.
We would also like to supply new shoes to each child at the school in Seraya we have been helping. If anyone would like to donate $5 for a pair of shoes this would be much appreciated.

A VERY BIG THANKYOU ONCE AGAIN
We cannot help everyone in the world but we can make a world of difference to some……
Without all your help and enthusiasm we would not have been able to accomplish any for the above work that we have done since our last visit.
We left for
FUNDS RAISED 2008/2009
In March we sent $4000 AUD to our friends at the BIWATOUR club. The money for this was to give 140 children at the school in Seraya ten kilos of rice per child for the months of April, May, June and July, totaling 1400 kilos per month. After coming back from our trip last year having given all the children five kilos of rice, we decided during the year we would give 10 kilos of rice to each child for four months. We are at present unable to continue this donation due to lack of funds. If you, or anyone you know, is able to assist please let me know.
Thank you to the students from

Valerie, Nola and Lyn visited the Yayasan Bumi Sehat (Birthing Centre) and met up with Robin Lim who took us on a tour of the centre. Once again Alison gave us her donation. We left them with a large case and four large bags of baby clothes, rugs etc. We also met two new mums and their babies.
Thanks also to Viv and friends who took up a large quantity of baby clothes in July.
Seraya
We left for Seraya village school with a group of 21 people from
were just so excited to see us all again. Jenny gave the school a large photo collage from our last visit there. We enjoyed another sing-a-long and gave all the children a school pack and a pen donated by Pascall Principal Pty Ltd. Our photo shows the students proudly holding up their pens.
From there we called into the village for our “tap turning-on ceremony”. It was an exciting and rewarding time to see the project completed.
Lyn and Valerie had the honour of turning the tap on. The water connection has a meter which is supervised by a village chief to ensure the efficiency and non-waste of this precious resource. We were able to supply them with eight large water containers to take the water into their homes. The only other means of carrying water is by bucket. We hope to supply more containers in the future. The water from this tap will supply an entire village. The joy on the faces of the people from this village was a reward in itself. Thanks go to South Australian Peduli and Vic, also the Soroptimists International, Fremantle and
We left the village and drove to Surji and Angela’s beautiful home where we had a coffee stop. We gave out fifty food parcels to the villagers of Seraya from their home. Met up with Putu (sponsor child) and his mum at this gathering and also gave them a little financial help. Once again we paid Putu’s school fees for the coming year. Putu is doing well at school as his marks reveal. He is still one of the top students of his year.
Tumbu
We then drove to Tumbu where we walked up to the newly renovated temple where we gave out another fifty food parcels. This was followed by a tree-planting ceremony at the temple where Valerie and Lyn planted a tree each. See photo of Gede who was also there with his dad and helped supervise the tree planting. He is doing well at school and health-wise.
To end our wonderful day we drove into Candi Dasa where we all enjoyed a magnificent buffet lunch.
Tampaksaring
Our visit to the Senang Hati Foundation was a happy one. A group of ten saw Jenny donate twenty five cushions which she had made for the wheelchairs. We took food and school supplies, walking frames, sheets, towels and foam noodles to assist swimming in the pool. While there we watched a dancer from
Wana Seraya Nursing Home
It is always a happy time when we visit the nursing home. We left them with boxes of food and some walking frames which were donated by Sandi and Dave.
Gianyar Orphanage
This was our first visit to Panti Asuhan Yappentatim Orphanage. They have 150 children. We gave out school packs, toys, a soccer ball and a large supply of food and clothes. It is a very poor orphanage and in need of a great deal of assistance. Some of our friends have shown interest to sponsor some of these children. Our photos show some of the children with their gifts and an insight into their sleeping arrangements.
We left the orphanage feeling inadequate and hoping that over the next year we can indeed contribute more for these children.
Ulakan
Ulakan is another village we visited again (our first visit was last year), where we handed out 100 food parcels and t/shirts donated by the Pascall Principal Pty Ltd. We handed out 80 school packs and all enjoyed another sing-a-long with these very grateful children. The photos show the children on the temple steps and the proud recipients of the t/shirts.
Peguyancan
This is a village where we gave out school packs to the students at the village school, and then we went to the village and gave out food aid to 100 villagers.
We also visited a new high school in the area for the first time which was a very interesting school in that most of the children here were gifted and had the opportunity of going on to university because of their intelligence.
John Fawcett Foundation
We went with Made to the John Fawcett Foundation clinic and watched his cataract operation in the mobile van. I was indeed privileged to be in the van to watch the operation. Thank you to John and all the staff for their help in getting this mans operation done so quickly.
McDonald’s Party for the children from the orphanages
We took these children to McDonalds in Sanur. Ten people from the Australian family group joined us. Once again a great night, lots of fun, games and singing. The children all received a school pack and a small bag from McDonalds and left with their gifts plus a balloon and ice-cream, very happy children as our photo shows. Thank you Bill and Lyn for making this a special treat for us all.
Thank You……………….
A big thank you goes to everyone who has donated school supplies….including schools and St Basils church. Donations included baby goods, toys, clothes and all money donations, including those we have previously mentioned in this newsletter. Without all your help we would not have been able to achieve any of the above work we have done throughout this past year.
Our thanks once again to Garuda Airlines for giving us, and all our friends during the year, the extra 10kg weight. This has helped us bring all the clothes and school supplies etc to
