February
2010
On the 3rd
February we left for Bali, this time only staying three and a half weeks. Our base once again was our familiar
hotel in Sanur and only a small group of friends were with us for this trip.
Our trusted
friends in Bali, Sudana Tanto, Gusdek and Senny once again assisted us by purchasing the food aid for the
villages from our donations and this was done through the Co-ops in the villages which in return benefit the
village itself.
The Staff
from the John Fawcett Foundation took us to visit Tom and Lyn’s sponsor twins at Gianyar where we gave them each
a gift and we also gave the local children a treat of lollies and biscuits. We then continued to Payangan to
visit Valerie’s sponsor child. This was Val’s first time to meet with her sponsor child and her mother. A lot of
joy for us all to be with these children that we sponsor.
ULAKAN
We visited
once again the village of Ulakan where we gave out 200 food parcels, clothes and caps to the people
in the village. We gave each of the 150 school children a school pack which included pens & pencils donated
by Thornlie Rotary Club.
We once
again enjoyed a sing-a-long with the children. These children never fail to enjoy our visits and our
contributions.
We visited
a smaller village where we personally handed out another ten food parcels to individual families. Also on this
visit, we photographed two ladies with large goitres and we are going to follow up with the John Fawcett
Foundation for them both to be seen by their doctor. We will keep you all informed of their
progress.
TAMPAKSARING
Our next
visit was to Senang Hati Foundation. Once again our visit was a joyous occasion. We took food and school
supplies, walking frames, sheets, towels and blankets. While we were there we watched them making jewellery. We
brought some of their jewellery back to sell which will hopefully assist them financially.
It is
always sad to leave these people and we look forward to our return trip.
SERAYA
We left for
Seraya Village school with a group of eight people from Australia. Once again the children all came out to greet
us. This trip we gave 140 children a 5kg bag of rice each [donated by Thornlie Rotary Club] and a school pack
each. The school is looking good. Valerie and Lyn are going to sponsor two of the very poor children in this
school as they move on to high school this July. While we were there we noticed a young boy suffering from
severe eczma – we all put in money to cover his medicals and medicines. Just before we left we learned that his
condition is much improved with only a small evidence of eczma. We are hoping to raise some money to buy each
child a pair of shoes for when we return in August.
From the school in Seraya we called into the village where we had previously
connected the water tap. Since August there have been twelve individual water taps connected to twelve small
village compounds and this is giving water to a couple of hundred people. Before we left we all enjoyed a
sing-song with the children.

TUMBU
We gave out 130 food packs to the people of Tumbu and Seraya Villages and all
the children there got a school pack.
We met Gede and his mother again and gave him a bag of clothes and toys. He is
now doing well at school and looks very well and happy and smiling, which you can see from the photo with his
mother and what a joy to us all these two people are.
We next went into the village and met up with a few older people then went
Sudana’s house and met Putu who had just come home from school – still doing very well at school and topping
his class. [

day.)
Left the
village for Candi Dasa where we all enjoyed a late lunch.
SINGARAJA –
This was
our first visit to the nursing home in Singaraja – Panti Penyantunan Lanjut Usia. We handed out to them food
aid. We were very impressed with the conditions at the nursing home as all the residents were looked well cared
for.

home residents ]
LOVINIA
From there we drove to Elisima 2 Orphanage. We gave them food aid and gave all
the children a school pack. We were also impressed with the children and the orphanage. We enjoyed a sing-song
with the children. We enjoyed a late lunch at a restaurant overlooking the ocean. On the way back we stopped
at Mundek to admire the beautiful views. Had a coffee at a resort and continued home via
Bedugal.
Our next
trip was for Ade’s birthday party at an orphanage in Denpasar. Our friend Gustek and Senny’s daughter Ade
celebrated her 16th birthday and this was her choice of how she wished to spend it. We took
along party food packs, drinks, gifts and Pedule Bali school packs for 80 children and a big birthday cake. It
was an enjoyable time and a wonderful way for a 16 year old to celebrate her birthday.

GIANYAR
ORPHANAGE
This trip
we were unable to visit this orphanage, but they are not forgotten as we are still looking for more ways to help
them.
UBUD
Five of us
visited Yayasan Bumi Sehat [birthing centre] . We left with them two large stripy bags of baby blankets, clothes
etc. for the new born babies. We met three new mums and their babies and gave them each a baby pack. We did not
meet up with Robyn this trip as she was doing humanitarian work in Haiti.
Made was
our driver on this occasion – you will remember him as the man who had the cataract operation. He is doing so
well and is so grateful for the opportunity we gave him.
SEWING MACHINE
We took one
of the sewing machines together with cottons and sissors donated by a member of Soroptomists International,
Rockingham to our friend’s Village. We also donated material. She was going to help set up a sewing centre and
teach the villagers to use the new machine.

machine]
The other
sewing machine will go up to Bali in our next trip in August.
PROJECTS
We had
discussions with putting in septic tanks in the village of Seraya. We will over the next few months be having
further discussions and start with one as a trial.
We would
also like to supply new shoes to each child at the school in Seraya we have been helping. If anyone would like
to donate $5 for a pair of shoes this would be much appreciated.
